Three more Meeting Records: Marco Orsi and Katie Meili the Stars at the Swimmeeting South Tyrol

Two records each for Toussaint and VanderpoolWallace
After the four Meeting records on Saturday, three new best time were made todayat the 19th edition of the Swimmeeting South Tyrol, which was again successfully run as a Green Event. Seven event records had been set in in Bolzano the lastyear too. The big stars during this 2-day event were Italy's sprint star Marco Orsi and the US breststrokeswimmer Katie Meili with three wins each. Setting two meeting records was a brilliant performance presented by Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace from the Bahamas and the Dutchwoman Kira Toussaint. Orsi won after his super times on Saturday (both 46.98 over 100m freestyle and the 100m IM in 53.11 mean European season best-times on short course) the 50m freestyle too. Swimming in 21.57 seconds, he missed his last year established meeting record by 34 hundredths "Unfortunately I made a few little things wrong, but over all I'm satisfied with my performances in Bolzano". Three victories were also booked by Katie Meili. After her success during the first day over 50m breaststroke and 100m IM, she was, as expected also over 100m breaststroke, a class by herself. In 1:04:40 minutes she demolished her own meeting record from the previous year (1,05,87) and was by 1.5 seconds faster than twelve months ago. Highly satisfied was Ilaria Scarcella in second place (1.06,35), which allowed her to qualify for the European Short Course Swimming Championship. Two wins and two meeting records fetched Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace from the Bahamas. Like over 100m freestyle she broke the meeting record of ranomi kromowidjojo from 2009 in the freestyle sprint too. The Olympic finalist in London remained in 23.93 as the first female swimmer under 24 seconds in Bolzano. She put Madison Kennedy (24.31) and Erika Ferraioli (24.76) at their ranks. Anotherone with two wins and two meeting records was Kira Toussaint over 50 and 100m backstroke. After yesterdays 58.20 she remained over the sprint distance in 27.15 seconds three-tenths under the record held by Laura Letrari in 27.44 since 2009. The local star was third in 28,05 behind Elena Gemo (27,60). Two victories - but no record - were taken over 50 and 100 m dolphin by Silvia Di Pietro and Piero Codia. Di Pietro also had clearly no opponents today over 100 m Delfin and won in 57.67 ahead of the German Alexandra Wenk (58.48). Codia remained after the yesterdays strong time over 50 m (23.39) slightly above expectations in his victory over the double-distance in 52.24. With two victories in the bag the Brazilian Guilherme Gudio traveles from Bolzano back home. After the 100m backstroke he won on the second day the 50m backstroke in 24.73 in front of the double second placed Italian Nicolò Bonachi and Spaniard Aschwin Wildeboer, who touched the wall at the same time in 24.82. Bolzanos habitue Fabio Scozzoli won twice this year too, even if he won over 100m breaststroke in 59.72 seconds he was not happy. But the former world champion and eight-time European Champion holds now eleven victories in total in Bolzano. As part of the Green Event particular attention to the topics waste production , waste separation and sustainabilty was given and appropriate measures have been implemented by the organizers. During the event the atheltes were given the possibility to use the public transport system with travel cards. To top off an electric bicycle of the event partner Reefire was raffled at a regional athletes and in this case the successful Bolzano breaststroker Zaccaria Casna, which has returned weakened by food poisoning a few days ago from the training camp, will ride a helpful and sustainable bike home.
